Homemade Ice cream Cake Recipe

Well it's birthday time again at our house and the request was for an ice cream cake. We had a coupon for $3.00 off, but that would still cost $21.95 and it would only be a 7 inch cake. So, we decided why not try to make our very own Rolo cake. (The birthday boy decided on this flavour.)
So, to start you need a spring form pan(don't have one? try Value Village or your local thrift shop.).We used a 10 inch spring form pan.
To start put 1 Box 1.89L-2L of ice cream of your choice in the fridge to soften
The Crust:
1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/3cup butter or margarine
melted
Mix all ingredients well and then press into the bottom of spring form pan
The Icing:
I found this recipe

It was interesting to learn that gelatin is important!

The Writing: To write on the cake I used a gift, the Epicure Chocolate Decorating gadget(thanks again Lynn!)
The Cost:
Ice cream can run you from $3-$8, depending on where you buy it.
The whipping cream was .76($3.05/L)
The crust would cost less than $1.
So, all told you could spend as little as $5, but if you want to use more expensive type ice cream you might spend $10. Compared to $25 that's a pretty great savings! It's easy too!

Neutrogena and Accudial Free plus SDM points!

There are 2 offers out there that if combined this weekend at Shoppers could make you money!
First of all Accudial has an offer for you to try one of their products free. Actually, they say they will send you $10 and that the product should cost $6.99. So, you actually make $3.

Secondly, there is an offer from Neutrogena Clinical night anti aging system mail in rebate.
Spend up to $70 and mail in your original receipt, UPC and a rebate form(I found one in this week's Rexall flyer, some say they are next to the Neutrogena products in Superstore)and they will send you the price of your purchase and taxes and postage!
The fine print: Valid between Jan 21 and Feb 4. This is when you must purchase it
One rebate per person
Must be postmarked by Feb 11,2011
Can not be combined with any other offer or coupons.
Canada only.
Available while quantities last(this makes me a little leery?anyone ever do one of these MIR before?)

Jan 22-24th if you spend $75 at Shoppers you get 18,500 optimum points, which is equivalent to about $25 worth of free merchandise. So, if you combine these 2 offers (the Neutrogena costs between $50 and $61)and don't end up having to buy anything else, you would get these 2 products free, plus almost $30!

Quick Update

Hi All,
I am writing quickly to let you know a few things.

$5 night ski($10 for rentals) is back at Big White starting this Friday,Jan 7,2011. All the details are here.

Shopper's is having there Tell a Friend Event next week. Sign up and then spend $20 on Jan 11,12,13 and you get 5000 points for yourself. Every friend you refer that signs up and spends $20 you get another 5000 points. Remember 8000 points is $10 worth of free merchandise.
My shopping list will look like this
My favorite bread Dempster's Ancient Grains is $1.50(until Feb 3 don't know if this is the same for every store) so I will buy 6 to freeze. Then a 4L of milk is usually $3.99. Sounds like Five Alive and Fruitopia will be .99 so we will need 3 of those. Eggs are going to be $1.99 so I will get 2. The total is $19.94, so I need a teensy bit more to reach the $20. That was easy and everything is a good price.

I will be taking a little time off and be back to blogging Jan 17th!

Happy 2011..A Year for Saving????

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2011! Maybe this will be your year for saving? I ran across this high interest savings account from Canadian Tire, offering an amazing 3.50% interest! Call 1-866-770-2837. It says it isn't an introductory interest rate but the fine print does say rate may change without notice. Who knew Canadian Tire did banking???
